Joseph Ashford is the founder of K4 Global, a company that creates innovative products for life’s everyday moments. Joseph was born in Bournemouth, England and spent his childhood on the beaches of Northern Ireland before moving to London at age sixteen.

Joseph studied law at University College London but soon found himself drawn to business development and entrepreneurship. Joseph has had stints with FTSE 100 companies, including Tesco PLC, leading their international expansion into Asia Pacific markets.

Joseph Ashford also led the launch of Tesco Bank and has worked with some of the world’s leading brands, including Coca-Cola and Lenovo. Joseph found his passion for entrepreneurship early on, launching successful e-commerce sites as a teenager before eventually founding KIVA in 2006 under an alias so he could work full time without anyone knowing it was him.

Joseph founded KIVA out of frustration at how difficult it was to give money away online. He was inspired by PayPal founder Peter Thiel, who vowed never to start another company after selling PayPal. Joseph decided that if you don’t like what is available, then build your solution. He thus has set a legacy, from Bournemouth to where he is currently based.

Joseph launched Kiva Micro funds (now known as simply “Kiva”) using $30k of his own money and a team of volunteers in late 2006. Kiva connects people through lending to alleviate poverty. Joseph is also the author of The Start-Up of You, which was published in 2012. The book provides an actionable guide for individuals looking to build their careers as entrepreneurs do. Joseph is a sought-after speaker and has been featured in media, including the BBC, CNBC, Forbes and The Huffington Post. Joseph currently resides in San Francisco with his wife and three young children.
