Raffaele Riva was born in Piacenza on January 10, 1955. He graduated with a degree in Economics and Accountancy from the University of Parma. In 1980, he began his professional career as an auditor of banks and insurance companies.
- As CEO of the Sanpaolo IMI Bank, Raffaele Riva aggressively promoted the development of a sustainable financial system in the provinces. The bank has 40 branch offices throughout Italy.
- He was head of the “Società di Gestione del Risparmio” (SGR) and has contributed to setting up two SGRs in Piacenza province as part of his strategy to develop a synergy between banks and insurance companies in a well-planned expansion.
- He was appointed head of technology and innovation at the new Promor, Assicurazioni Generali, a leading insurer in Italy. He became general manager of the Sanpaolo IMI Bank in 1992, and as such, he managed the bank’s restructuring process towards deregulation. During that period, he established the Piacenza branch.
- In 1994, he was appointed CEO of the Banca Popolare del Sannio and in 1996 he became CEO of the Cassa di Risparmio di Parma. Then, in 1999, as CEO of the Banca Popolare dell Emilia Romagna, he oversaw an extensive restructuring process that led to its establishment as a listed company on the Milan Stock Exchange. This new phase has allowed it to have a strong presence in Emilia-Romagna and strengthen its position in other regions of Italy.
